Hi Everyone! Happy Friday! I hope you are all excited its the weekend, I know I sure am. It felt like one super long school week for me. What plans do you guys have for the weekend? Let me know in the comments.
Anyway I am also super excited to talk you about my first #coffeeshopthoughts topic to you all. As you could see in the title the topic I am going to talk about today is the value of unplugging or stopping the endless scroll. I think this topic has been talked about a lot in the last few years with the explosion of social media but I am just recently learning the value.
Does anyone else get sucked into this endless scrolling through instagram or snapchat and all of a sudden an hour has gone by?? Well I am guilty of this and it was only recently I noticed I really need to stop doing this for a multitude of reasons.
One main reason is that as a graduating senior I do NOT have an hour to aimlessly waste on social media. I also realized I was less productive after I spent a long period of time on social media. So not only did I just waste an hour of time but also was not taking advantage of the time after.
Another thing I am majorly guilty of or was* before I made a conscious effort to change was looking at social media before bed. I know I know I am cringing as I type that but I recently haven't been sleeping well and looking at social media was a big factor in that not the only reason but a pretty big one. I know all the health people out there say it keeps your brain awake therefor it leads to not sleeping well. Its not that I didn't believe them but I just thought oh I don't think it really effects me and I thought that way until it really did start effecting me. I am a person that has a hard time shutting my brain off before bed anyway and then looking at a hundred pictures on top of that just didn't let me relax my mind at all.
So recently ( I am talking last 2 weeks) to combat the bad habit of spending too much time online I have introduced 2 new good habits. The first new habit is scheduling in my planner a time I get to spend a certain amount of time on social media. That way I don't waste an hour when I should be studying or doing homework. The second habit is shutting off social media 2 hours before I go to bed that includes tv as well and reading instead. Sounds rough right? But trust me this change has had the biggest impact on my sleep and just wellbeing. I find myself body and mind much more relaxed when I do this and now I look forward to it! I also can really say I have been sleeping so much better.
Let me know in the comments if you have a hard time unplugging or stopping the endless scrolling and what you do to combat this! Or if you still have a hard time like I did doing this and what you plan to do to change it.
Have a good weekend XO
