I hope you enjoyed my last post, my first #gluten-free recipe! If you haven't checked out that post talking about a delicious banana bread recipe you really should. But read this first ;) Kidding of course read anything you'd like on my site.
Overview: Today I am discussing my week 4 update on my hopes, dreams, goals for 2018. In my last update I got pretty real with you guys about how I almost walked away from it all because I was scared I couldn't succeed or achieve all I wanted too. But here I am still pushing and pursuing because to achieve what you want to you have to show up day in and day out for it.
I am still learning this and have no way perfected it. It is something I actually really struggle with because of my health. For example a goal of mine is to do some type of exercise every single day but on days where I am leveled with migraine and wonder if i'll ever not be in pain again I find it extremely hard to do that goal. Another example is I am fortunate to live with my parents right now so cooking a new recipe a week isn't something I necessarily have to do because I know they will cook for me. But I pursue this goal aggressively because I want to learn to cook and make yummy/ healthy gluten free meals.
I mention these examples to show you there will always and I mean ALWAYS be obstacles that will get "in the way" of your intentions and goals... but only if you let them. I succumb to this too and sometimes even create them for myself even if there isn't one initially (man thats bad when I type it out but I am working on it). Here are some things I have said to myself "oh I don't feel well I don't want to exercise" "I have a million other things I should be doing so I'll get to that one eventually" "I have so much on my plate as is why am adding more?" "other people have more time and don't have a chronic illness that's why they are achieving their dreams". Yes I have said all of these things. I say them still because I am the one that gets in my own way but luckily that means I can be the one to get out of my own way that can go after those hopes and dreams.
I tell you those quotes because I know I am not alone in saying those type of negative and destructive things and I am here to tell you that it's okay if you do that but only if you continue on and don't allow yourself to completely veer off your path.
How I did in week 4: In the last full week of January I really got into a good rhythm and was proud of myself. I exercised, I cooked, I meditated, I wrote posts for my blog, I added in the changes to the blog and on my instagram that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I created new goals for myself, modified ones I initially wrote down, and crossed some out that I don't think will serve me well. All of those things are okay and helpful to do I feel. Reevaluate them constantly. They don't need to be set in stone. I have modified many of them because they were just not fully achievable with my current health.
This is not something to be ashamed of if you have to modify, cross out, and eliminate some. Following your intentions, dreams, and goals is not supposed to make you feel bad or like a failure before you've really begun. So make it workable for you. So that you can be proud of yourself when you check one off.
I know in January everyone is good at keeping up with goals because "new year new me" but start to drop off as soon as February hits. Some tips to combat that. They are similar to how I went about my goals in January.
How to combat the February Drop off: Tip 1: Constantly look at them. It's easy to make a list in the beginning of the year and stop looking at it after that. This is where you will drop off for one reason or another. Tip 2: Modify! That can mean modify them as a whole or tweak them so they are more manageable that week. Tip 3: Write the ones you want to accomplish that week in your planner. Meaning actually schedule time for them. I find if I don't schedule time for things I do the " oh I'll get to that" or "I'll remember to do that" and by the time I get to them it's too late and I have lost the day.
I will keep doing these week check ins if you guys would like! Or I could do it every few weeks. Let me know. I hope this is helpful to you. You have everything you need to achieve your goals within yourself, you got this!
